"I'm a Sinner and Jesus is Lord"

A team of three national Bangladeshis has been working on creating a story set targeting a religious minority who speak the majority language, Bangla. Storying appeals to Bangladesh’s large illiterate population. According to UNICEF 44% of adults are unable to read or write and among rural dwellers the rate is even higher.

One crafter, Mala, wanted to share the stories with the women in her home village. So, Mala, her village pastor and family members invited a group of forty poor, Hindu women and village elders to hear a story during her Christmas holiday. The morning began with several formalities: Mala’s uncle checked the attendance of the invited women, each organizer gave a greeting, and then Mala began. Her story crafted for this event incorporated the creation of the world, the entrance of sin and Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection.

Though the morning began as a typical Bangladeshi ceremony, the story was not routine for the listeners. One lady recognized, “Jesus is really good. I am a sinner and Jesus was born for me. Christmas is for everyone.” All of the women promised to share what they learned with their families. As a reminder, each attendee received a new sari as a Christmas gift. Mala desires that, “when the women wear the sari, they will remember the story they heard.”

Mala and her husband desire to continue using stories to minister in Bangladesh. “This is not a one-time program,” says Mala. “We plan to continue arranging programs like this, either with the same women or elsewhere in the country. Many people have not heard the truth about Jesus. Therefore, this type of work is my duty.”

YWAM Onestory team in East Asia working with UUPG has a breakthrough: A girl from the group came  to Christ and was baptized this recently.  Subsequently  OS team leaders  were invited to come to village and share with the mother … who is a shaman. Humanly, it was nigh impossible for the team leaders to get to this group; in one moment Father opens the door! How about praying for them?
